Aldous Huxley’s psychedelic lifestyle

On this day in 1894 Aldous Huxley, writer and thinker was born.
Though known for his experimental taking of psychedelic drugs before that became fashionable, Huxley is foremost remembered as the author of Brave New World the terrifyingly prophetic account of life in the future that he wrote over eighty years ago in 1932.
His predictions of genetically modified babies, boundless consumption, casual sex and drugs seem to get more and more akin to present day life. Huxley was also deeply spiritual and spent much of his later years researching mysticism and parapsychology.
He probably knew and appreciated this poem, by Edgar Allen Poe, Alone:
From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
..Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
Today I ask that I will learn to progress in goodness and spirituality.
